This Body Is Borrowed

Living with reverence for what we carry — not what we own.

Let’s get honest—most of us spend a lot of time thinking about our bodies.

We dress them.

We feed them.

We try to fix, stretch, hide, or highlight them.

But the body you’re walking around in?

It’s not the full story.

It’s not even the main story.

You Are Not Your Body

Your body is where you live—not who you are.

It’s a vessel. A shell. A temple. A temporary tent.

The Bible makes it clear:

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

— 2 Corinthians 5:1 (NIV)

Your spirit is the real you…..

Your body is the space you’ve been assigned—for now.

That means how we treat our bodies matters…

but we also have to stop letting our bodies define us.

What Does It Mean That the Body Is Borrowed?

It means this:

• You’re here temporarily

• You’ve been entrusted with something valuable

• You’ll return it one day

Borrowed things should be honored—but not idolized.

This body is not permanent. It’s on loan while you carry out your assignment here.

Don’t Let the Flesh Lead

“Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

— Romans 8:5 (NKJV)

You can feel something and still choose differently.

You can want something and still submit it.

That’s the power of knowing:

This body doesn’t own me. I steward it.

🌱 Pause & Unfold:

• Have I been letting my body’s cravings or habits make my decisions?

• What would shift if I treated my body like a borrowed vessel instead of a permanent identity?

• What’s one way I can honor my body without worshiping it?

🙏🏽 A Simple Prayer:

God, thank You for the body I live in—but help me never confuse it for who I am.

Teach me how to treat it with care without letting it lead my life.

Remind me that this body is a borrowed vessel, and my spirit is the part You breathed and called Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.

With grace and unfolding light,

Sharmain 🧡

Grace. We hear the word all the time, at church, in prayers, maybe even on T-shirts or tattoos. Something God just hands out, so we don’t have to…

The Cost of the Side-Eye You say you trust God But your eyes keep drifting sideways. Not because you’re nosy. Because youre tired. Closer Than You Think

Closer Than You Think Even in silence, He hasn’t stopped moving. There are days when I can feel God moving, opening doors, answering prayers, shifting things around. And then there are days when… it’s quiet. Too quiet. Those are the days I have to remind myself: Just because I can’t see what He’s doing doesn’t…
