The Cost of the Side-Eye
You say you trust God
But your eyes keep drifting sideways.
Not because you’re nosy.
Because youre tired.
Because it feels like your obedience is getting you *nowhere* while theirs seems to be producing fruit overnight.
Its quiet, this comparison.
It doesnt yell.
It sighs.
It watches.
It wonders:
Why does it work for them and not me?
The Side-Eye Lives in the Mind Before It Reaches the Heart
You may still pray. Still serve. Still show up.
But youre no longer fully surrenderedyoure suspicious.
And suspicion doesnt grow trust.
It grows resentment.
It says:
–Â God, I’m not sure You know what Youre doing.
– Maybe I need to help You out.
– If You wont give me what they have, maybe Ill go get it myself.
But spiritual side-eye isn’t just a glance. It’s a posture.
James 3:16 says:
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
Theres a cost to it.
It may seem harmless but it robs you of: – Joy in your own journey
– Trust in God’s pace
– Gratitude for your daily bread
Side-eye faith forgets that God sees you.
Side-eye faith forgets the pruning is part of the process.
Side-eye faith wants the promise without the preparation.
But you dont need to hustle Gods favor.
You need to realign your focus.
Stop tracking their results.
Start tending your roots.
The fruit will come.
But only if you stay planted.
Pause & Unfold:
Hey
Can we be real for a second?
Whats been making you feel behind?
Whats got you side-eyeing someone elses win and wondering if God forgot about you?
Sometimes its not jealousyits exhaustion.
Youve been praying, waiting, doing your best.
And its hard not to look over and say, So why *them* and not me?
But I want you to ask yourself this:
– Have I been so focused on their fruit that Ive stopped watering mine?
– Am I tired because Ive been trying to *prove* something instead of just *trusting*?
– What would shift if I believed God still had me*even here*?
You dont need to fake peace.
You just need to come back to where your focus belongs.
And maybe… just maybe… it’s okay to grow slower if you’re growing stronger.

The Root Work Is Still Work
Youve been digging.
Youve been pulling up the weeds of comparison.
Youve been watching where your eyes wander and calling yourself back.
Thats not small. Thats not surface.
Thats root work.
And root work is still work.
But here’s the thing no one says loud enough:
Just because its underground doesnt mean its unseen.
God sees the shift.
Every time you pause instead of spiral.
Every time you choose trust over timeline.
Every time you say, God, Ill wait with Youeven if I dont understand.
Thats deep obedience.
Youre not just showing upyoure settling in.
And settling in isnt weak.
Its what trees do before they ever bear fruit.
Colossians 2:7 (NLT):
Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong
No one claps for the buried work.
But Heaven sees it.
And one day, so will you.
You dont need to bloom on demand.
You just need to stay planted.
Pause & Unfold:
Have you been downplaying the work youre doingjust because no one sees it?
Have you convinced yourself that unless theres fruit *now*, the roots dont matter?
What if this part of your journey isnt about producing, but about *preparing*?
Breathe here.
Stay here.
Let this ground settle around you.
Youre being made strongright under the surface.
